This week I sat down with the inspiring and gifted Joy Lin, who is not only my personal healer but also my spiritual mentor to discuss everything spiritual healing related. If you've been wanting to find out more about spiritual/energetic healing and how it can benefit you, then you're in for a real treat!
Can you share with us the basic concept of healing?
I believe everyone has an energy body that overlays the physical body. Everything is made up of energy, even our cells in our bodies and everything around us. Within our body there are nerve impulses that send electric signals up and down our brain creating energy fields around our body and electromagnetic energy waves that can travel away from the body interacting with other electric fields from plants and from our environment.
Everyone has basically bioelectric fields around their body which can be measured, there are machines that can measure it and in some cases the energy that is given off your body some machines can take pictures of that which appears as colours aka auras. EDS Machines documents the measurement of the human biofield and other electric instruments.
People have tried to quantify and measure this intangible energy we give off and whether we feel that or experience it by vibes off people or the energy in a room or energy at a party, energy is all around us.
Whether we recognise it or not we know our environment impacts us, our moods and our thoughts affect us, everything impacts us whether we’re consciously aware of it or not. If everything is made up of energy and energy cannot be neither created or destroyed but transmuted which is the law of the conservation of energy then that energy has to go somewhere and it get’s on you until you move it. If you don’t move it, it can eventually get in you.
When people talk about heart attacks or sicknesses, yes there are viruses and what not, but the heart attacks come from stress and stress comes from your environment. Whether that is a mental or emotional sensation those thoughts and emotions eventually translate into your physical body. So many times people say disease or dis-ease of harmony in your body can come from the outside in and the inside out – you can manifest it from within yourself. So energy healing really helps clears and balance your energies with the energy of your surroundings. It separates your energy, clears out anything that’s not helpful or is not serving to you and then it helps you feel essentially like you again and centered again. We all have that feeling where you don’t feel right, you don’t know what it is you just don’t feel like doing anything or are demotivated or you just feel off and can’t put your finger on it. That could be a mental state or an emotional state but it can also be an energetic state just like going to a doctor, there are energy healers that help you through these times.
What can people get help with when they have a healing session with you?
It can help with any emotional, physical or mental blocks. It can help with depression, motivation or if you’re feeling tired, not feeling quite right or if you’re feeling drained. I know these words kind of sound vague but when people are feeling really heavy they don’t even know what that means until they get a healing and then they feel lighter. It’s really about re-centering and balancing yourself and feeling like you again.
Have you noticed any changes to your healing sessions from when you started to your healings now?
I have a certificate in Energetic Healing and I’m also a Reki Master and I think when I first started I was worried about the proper form and structure. As a medium because I channel during my healing sessions now, I still have the knowledge of what I’ve studied and the schools I attended but I am trusting more and more of my guides to come in and trusting what they want to do in the healing. I don’t want to say it’s unstructured but I say there is more flow to my healings now.
What has been your most powerful or moving healing session and why?
I do a lot of healings around loss and grief. Loss of a loved one in terms of passing or loss and grief of a relationship. A lot of the energy and the sadness of loss can be debilitating to people. It leads to depression, it leads to their own illness and it leads to literally a heaviness in their own body and mental and emotional states.
I worked with a woman who never quite dealt with the loss of her father and his passing and she had been going to counselling for many years but it was still energetically on her. When I say energetically on her in a spiritual sense she was still holding onto her father. So he had passed and crossed over but his energy and that sadness and the heaviness was literally draped over her shoulders.
So when people say your grandma is around visiting you in a spiritual sense he was around her but it was so heavy with the loss. She was sad and then he was sad for her so put it together it was their grief times two which she then carried around for years and years. It aged her and she gained weight and fought with depression.
When I did a healing to really heal that loss and that passing and move that spirit on in a peaceful way she cried and she felt lighter and she said she knew there were things that she still had to do to make peace within herself but she literally thanked me. She said after 10 years of trying to manage this death and going to counselling it’s the first time that she had a good night sleep and felt like herself again. She didn’t even know what it felt like to be herself again because it had been so long in that grief but she felt hopeful and she was very grateful and I was also very honored to be apart of that healing process.
I think helping people through loss whether it’s a relationship or a loved one who’s passed is such a difficulty thing. I know when I went through it myself personally, I went through countless physiologists and other outlets, if you’re luck enough to find that one session, that one healing that really helps you move forward it’s such a gift and that’s one of the things that I’m grateful that I’ve had done to me and that I’m grateful I can do for others.
How has healings helped you in your personal life?
It’s helped me with my own depression and loss of relationships many times. Heartbreak and feeling literally sick in your chest and in your stomach can be debilitating, you don’t want to eat, you don’t want to do anything, you’ve lost meaning. When I’m in that state I can’t work, I can barely hold my own energy in my own being let alone hold energy for anyone else, so healings help me get back to me essentially.
It’s separating your energy from the other person or the energy of the situation. It doesn’t mean that the situation or the person is going to come back to you and everything is going to be fine, but you don’t have to carry that heaviness.
You can deal with your own energy and heal yourself so you can look at things more objectively and just feel like yourself again, because you were always yourself before you enter a relationship, you were always a whole person and you still are when you enter a relationship but we just forget because our energies intertwine with those that we love and you form a bond with another person – energy cords, energetic bonds can be so strong. You know that person so well, you know their habits , you know what they feel like, you can almost intuitively sense them, that’s only on the physical level, imagine what it does to you on a soul, energetic level. So any type of severing of that type of bond can be quite debilitating so helping people move through that and having other healers help me move through that I think that’s one of the majority things that I do in my line of work with healings.
If someone wanted to try a simple healing on themselves that they can do whenever they feel the need, what tips would you suggest?
I would say the quickest way to get your own energy back is to go for a salt water swim or bathe yourself in a salt water bath. Salt water is a great way to cleanse your energy. Before I heal anyone I have to get the energies off them that don’t belong to them and that doesn’t serve them because then I can work with their own energy. We often are like sponges walking around in the world and we are collecting things from other people, from our environment, feeling drained, feeling heaving, feeling emotional, feeling charged – whatever it is. So before any healing I have to clear the person first so the quickest way to clear yourself is a salt water swim or a salt water bath as it’s the easiest healing to do.

Questions? Comments? I'd love to hear from you!
I've been bursting at the seams to share with you the benefits of cleansing and healing your chakras to help you live a happier and healthier life!
So first things first, let me give you a really simple explanation on chakras. Our body (and every living thing for that matter) is made up of energy and chakras are energy centres which look after different aspects of our body, physically and energetically.
There are 7 main chakras which energy flows through which I've listed from bottom to top including their main functions below:
If there are energy blockages in one or more of the chakras then, over time, this blocked energy can impact the physical body. For instance signs of a blocked heart chakra from experiencing let's say a relationship breakup, can cause physical symptoms in your body such as tightness in the chest or shortness of breath. If you are not able to speak your truth, or speak up to someone in a situation, you can develop physical symptoms such as a sore throat which is caused by a blockage in the throat chakra.
If our chakras are blocked for a long period of time this can lead to further negative reactions, symptoms or developments in the body. As you know I'm a big believer in looking after the wellness of our mind, body and spirit and educating on the benefit of balancing these. I believe my mum's breast cancer was impacted by having a blocked heart chakra for many years. Mum's cancer was on her left breast and I believe her heart chakra was a factor in causing the cancer due to a challenging and emotionally draining marriage.
So how do you know if you have a blockage in one or more of your chakras? It's important to trust your body and tune in often to see how you feel. Have you been experiencing any discomfort in your body such as (but not limited to) digestive problems, headaches, sickness or a sore throat? Then consider whether this could be due to one or more of your chakras being blocked. I'm not a doctor so cannot say that the physical symptom/s you are experiencing is caused by a blockage of a chakra, however if you have gone through a hard situation or difficult emotional experience and you don't release or let go of the emotions, attachments or fears related to them, they commonly do appear in a physical way (this could be even just the way you are feeling or how you handle certain situations).
Our attitude, intentions, thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions also have repercussions on our chakras, both positive and negative. In deepening our self-awareness and improving our overall attitude we affect the quality of our chakras energy. Similarly, if we can tap into our chakras and identify the quality of the energy of each, it helps us to increase our self-knowledge and to identify if we need to cleanse or clear any of them.
There are many ways you can work on clearing and cleansing your chakras, in my personal experience I've used a mixture of kinesiology, spiritual healing, yoga as well as meditation.
There are some excellent chakra healing, clearing and balancing meditations available for free on Youtube, just search what you want to focus on and there will be one for you!
A couple of my go to meditations for chakras are below:
I am also more than happy to provide recommendations of great practitioners if you are interested in receiving some chakra cleansing and healing – please comment your interest below.
Questions? Comments? I'd love to hear from you!
2016 was all about endings and closing of doors making it a challenging year for so many of us, I personally found it was one of the hardest years I've ever experienced!
So when 2017 rolled around I was excited to hear that the year of the Rooster was all about new beginnings and I began to wonder how different the two years had already started to feel, even though it's still pretty early on in the year.
There's so many factors when it comes to fate, lessons you need to learn and as you hear often people will say 'everything happens for a reason'. We have personality traits explained from our star signs and Chinese zodiacs however sometimes these can be a bit vague or not so accurate. This is where astrology comes in, to put it simply astrology is like putting a microscope onto your own life and personal traits - it is completely customised and created for you and your birth chart to-a-T.
To explain in more detail I sat down with Josh Hancock, I've had a few friends see Josh for their in depth astrology and they both said it blew their mind and helped them to learn so much more about themselves and thought he'd be the perfect person to teach us more about Astrology!
Josh has been a practicing psychic for many years and after conducting thousands of readings he decided to delve into the world of Astrology, studying at the Sydney Astrology School and now is a popular astrologist in Australia.
So Josh, as a professional Astrologer can you please explain to us the basic concept of Astrology and how it works?
Absolutely, it’s my favourite topic!
Most people only know their ‘star sign’. That they are a Leo, or a Sagittarius. This is the constellation that the Sun was in on the day you were born. The first things that skeptics would say is that there were a lot of people born when the Sun was in that sign. And they’re right. The were probably millions of other babies born at the same time.
What most people don’t understand is that there are nine other planets that were moving around the Earth at the time you were born. The serious study of astrology takes all of these into account. Analysing all of these planetary placements, and their relationships to one another, is how things get much more specific, and much more accurate, than simply reading the standard newspaper articles that’l tell you that ‘Wednesday is going to be a bad day for love for Aries’.
I practice Evolutionary Astrology. The basic premise is that you have come into this life carrying some karma from a prior lifetime. Your soul has come back to be able to work through an issue which was left unresolved. Through analysis of your birth chart, we’re able to understand what those issues are, and also what sort of journey your soul wants to experience in this life.
It’s quite powerful.
What first got you interested in Astrology?
I started out as a clairvoyant. I was very intuitive my whole life. Part of understanding more about that part of myself led me to some really great teachers, and eventually to reading professionally.
Over time, though, I started to realise that there was more going on than the things I was picking up intuitively. Different clients would be going through similar things at similar times, and I came to realise that there was a larger plan at work for us all, and that was astrology.
It was the ‘missing piece’. Since then I’ve jumped in with both feet and haven’t looked back.
What’s the most fascinating thing you’ve discovered with Astrology?
I think that one of the biggest breakthroughs I had with astrology came when I understood that astrology isn’t that great at telling you what is going to happen, but is very good at telling you how you’re going to feel.
Sometimes our motivations are conflicting. If we understand them well enough, there’s no need to know what the future will bring. We can truly be co-creating our own lives with the Universe’s advice and guidance.
When you approach astrology with that perspective, it’s never wrong. And it never takes you out of the driver’s seat. Other divinatory systems can sometimes leave you feeling powerless, like you were always destined to go through something. That’s great when it’s something good, but it’s terrible during difficult times.
Astrology isn’t going to take the trials out of life, but it will help you understand the bigger lesson that accompanies those times. There’s so much power in that kind of clarity.
It was a fascinating eye-opener for me. Especially because my journey started out trying to ‘un-fog the future’.
How accurate have you found Astrology with your clients when it comes to dating?
It’s very accurate, but relationship astrology is one of the most misunderstood branches.
You’ll often hear things like, ‘Scorpios are sexy, but dangerous’, or ‘Virgos are a good fit for Taurus’. It’s simply not true.
True relationship astrology is called Synastry, and it involves analysing your birth chart and the birth chart of your partner. It’s very good a detailing the positive aspects of your relationship, as well as the challenging aspects. It helps you move through your relationship with completely open eyes. Because it involves some analysis, it’s often only utilised for people who have an existing, committed partnership.
In the more general sense, analysing your own transits is a good way to understand the energy that has brought someone new into your life. It’ll tell you if you have ‘unfinished business’ with someone from a prior lifetime - in which case you might get into a turbulent love affair that will involve some steep learning together - or if they have genuine potential for longterm partnership.
Have you reviewed your own Astrology and how did you find that compared to reviewing a client’s Astrology?
I think we’re all a little biased when it comes to analysing ourselves. I’ll often look at my own chart, and my own upcoming transits, but sometimes it can be difficult to stay objective. I think we all have a tendency to see the best and downplay the worst.
Looking at a client’s chart, I’m completely objective. And I think that’s important. No matter what tool you use to bring clarity to a situation, I often find it’s better to have someone who is neutral weigh in with their interpretation. Fresh eyes bring fresh perspectives.
I’m much better at doing that for my clients than I am for myself.
How has Astrology helped you personally in your life?
It’s helped me so much, and continues to help me.
As much as I have enjoyed the process of understanding more about myself, astrology has a ‘warts and all’ approach. It can be confronting, at times. It’ll tell you the good, and the not so good qualities. Something which I think is important. If we don’t understand the shadow qualities that exist within us, they can take over, which is when things start to get difficult.
Astrology gives me better confidence in my choices, but it also keeps me accountable.
I’ve had so many breakthroughs with astrology that I don’t even know who I’d be if I’d never heeded its advice and guidance.
If someone wanted to do their own Astrology where should they start?
There’s so much out there. That should be a great thing, but everyone is practicing astrology in a different way, so it can make learning about astrology confusing.
If anyone would like their chart calculated professionally, so that they can understand where the planets where when they were born, I’m going to offer to do that for FREE for your readers. (Please note it may take 1-2 weeks to receive your free birth chart as it is customised completely just for you!)
If anyone would like to learn astrology for themselves, I HIGHLY recommend Sydney Astrology School. They’ll teach you astrology from the ground up. From basics to advanced.
Any other Astrology words of wisdom?
There are a lot of great tools out there to help bring clarity to a situation, but astrology is the most complete, and most accurate, I’ve ever found.
No one needs astrology. If you’re in touch with your intuition and you’re listening to your instincts, you’re probably on the right path to creating the life that’s most authentic to you. But if you’re someone who’s interested in a greater understanding of yourself and your soul’s intention in this life - astrology is definitely for you.

Have you ever found some weeks you’re feeling easily aggravated, find people at work are in an edgy or extra stressed mood or had someone yell at you for no reason? You would think it’s just a bad day or week, but have you ever considered that there is more to it than just that?
Did you know that it has been proven that the moon can impact our behaviour and how we react to situations, make decisions and choices on how we live our lives?
This is due to the frequencies emanating from the moon which affect the frequencies of our mind and body including our feelings, emotions and desires.
The moon frequencies have the capacity to make our thought impressions in our sub-conscious mind to surface to the conscious mind and once in the conscious mind we become aware of them. These frequencies also affect the minds of animals.
I hope I haven’t lost you yet! Let me explain, at a spiritual level the universe is made up three basic particles or energies which are known as the three subtle basic components (trigunās) named Sattva, Raja and Tama.
On a full moon and new moon days there is a decrease in the ‘Raja-Tama’ (two of these basic particles). On a full moon there is increased illumination on the moon and there is a gravitational pull of the moon and sun combined. There is a gravitation pull on other days too, but it is not as powerful as on these days. This creates a subtle very high-pressure belt.
On a full moon day as the moon frequencies are more active, a heightened activity of the mind occurs which can explain those changing and sometimes unexpected behaviours of people. Did you know that at this time there is increased visits to general or psychiatric emergency departments and people find they have higher levels of physical and mental distress? Our moods are affected as much as three time more than usual which starts two days before a full moon or new moon and ends two days after.
Overall the effect of the moon on us is more on a new moon than on full moon. The overall effect of a full moon is more on the physical body whereas that of new moon is more on the mind.
The most important question is though, how do we help ourselves during these times to have a more balanced and relaxed life? It’s been suggested to try not to make big decisions on these days such as buying a house and increase the amount of time meditating. Relaxing and eating healthy to keep the body and mind in complete wellness would benefit. I’d suggest our Feelin Healthy, Chilled Dude or Healthy Mind, Body & Spirit hampers to help you stay relaxed, balanced and healthy during this time.
