Energy created by emotions, feelings and thoughts can not only impact us and others around us, it can also impact our home. Our home is a place of comfort and rest, however if energy begins to build up which can happen through meditating or exercising within the home or not releasing your own built up emotions and frustrations, the energy then can become stuck.
I work from a home office, where I also meditate and workout often, which is such an outlet for me to release and let go of thoughts, feelings and frustrations. Within the past week however this energy began to build up and became stuck in my office and within myself. The impact from this meant I became extremely exhausted, constantly wanting to sleep and not being able to function properly. I'm sensitive to energy in general and could feel that it wasn't necessary my own and the office felt heavy and clouded, making it difficult for me to work and focus within that space. Because of this, I had to do a thorough cleanse of myself and my home to release it and I can't tell you how much better I feel after doing this!
Here's my top tips on how to cleanse and clear the energy from yourself and your home:
Sage is a great tool to use for smudging regularly to clear and cleanse yourself and your home. Smudging is the process of lighting a white ceremonial sage bundle (aka wand), which is usually bound together by a thin string and circling in an anti-clockwise direction around yourself and within each room of your home. When I'm smudging I like to say out-loud something along the lines of "I'm releasing the energy back to mother nature, to be restored, to be renewed, to be regenerated. Any energy that is not mine, any energy that does not serve me or this home, any dirty or stagnant energy, I am now releasing to the universe leaving me with only love and light energy." There is no set saying you need to stick to when smudging, whatever feels right to you - I believe if you say it with power and intention it will work! When smudging, ensure that your windows are open so the energy can leave the home and be released. You can pick up Sage bundles at crystal, health food or herb stores.
Salt bath or ocean swim
Creating a salt bath or salt wash to cleanse is a great way to get rid of excess energy, I use Himalayan salt and either add to a bath or scrub over my skin in the shower. If you're lucky enough to live close to an ocean immerse yourself into the water, providing a natural and powerful salt cleanse.
Another quick and easy tool to absorb energy is by adding salt into a bowl with water and placing around your home. I currently have a bowl in each room of my place to take away any of the residue energy. It's perfectly fine to have a salt bowl within your home constantly, just ensure you change it over at least once a week, as just like us and our homes the energy will also build up into these bowls.
Crystals offer an endless amount of support to us, if you need help with something, anything - there is a crystal that can help! The explanation of how crystals work is a whole other blog within itself, so I won't go into this today, however if you're a crystal owner you'll understand the powers of crystals, and if you're not, I suggest going into your local crystal store to test out the energy of each. It's a really fascinating and simple test to see which crystal is right for you! Just place one into your hand and close your palm around it to see if you can feel any energy. The energy can be heat or an electric-like feeling, if you feel this it's the crystal for you!
I've slightly steered off topic, although I wanted to give you a basic insight into crystals. For protecting and clearing your home however the best crystals to have are Citrine, Rose Quartz and Amethyst - don't forget to cleanse these often with your sage as they will absorbing energy daily.
Music is a very powerful shiftier of energy. I'm one of those people who is constantly listing to music - when I'm getting ready in the morning, when I'm working, cleaning the house, cooking etc. I'm always playing something! There is lots of great cleaning and clearing tracks on youtube, both music and Hz (which are sound frequencies that create a specific vibration to specifically to cleanse and clear energy). Play this loudly within your home to clear the space.
If you've cleansed the energy within your home and within yourself and are still feeling drained, all that's left to do is rest! Take some time out, watch a doco on netflix, read a book or go for a relaxing walk, a good nights sleep will always do you wonders as well! I suggest cleansing and clearing at least weekly to stop the energy from building up. If you still feel like the energy isn't shifting you may need the help of a healer, but majority of the time you can manage and clear the energy yourself.

Last year I took two days off work, I was bed ridden with some sort of cold/flu, it took me two days but on the third I was up and back to my normal self, not only do I not get sick often, when I do, my body seems ti fight it off a lot quicker, and generally without the need for antibiotics. I have to thank a healthy lifestyle for this one. This all may be common sense to us folks, but the truth is really in pudding. So here's my top tips for staying sick free this winter:
Exercise, Exercise, Exercise
I know what your thinking - 'it's so damn cold and dark outside Amy and I'd much prefer to say in bed where it's nice and warm'....and yes I also have the same thoughts sometimes, but I promise you, pulling yourself out of bed to go for a run or a walk really assists to keep your body & immune system strong. If you don't like being out in the cold, head to gym and ask a friend to join you for a regular workout to keep you motivated. Exercising increases levels of "soothing" brain chemicals like serotonin and in fact reduces the symptoms of depression, to help you banish those winter blues and keep you smiling through those chilly days. Exercise does not only work out your body, it's also a great workout for your brain and keeping fit and active provides better cognitive function. Not only does exercise make you feel great, it helps you have a great night's sleep too!
Be a tea drinker!
Echinacea tea is excellent for banishing colds as its antiviral & antibacterial and interestingly can raise levels of infection-fighting white blood cells (I'm actually drinking some right now!). Lemongrass & ginger tea is also a winner as it includes anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants.
You can also slice up some pieces of ginger, add some manuka honey and fresh lemon to hot water and Voilà! you have one badass home-made cold fighting delicious tea! In summer just add cold water fresh mint for a yummy iced tea.
Vitamin C is your new best friend!
Healthy eating is a big factor for your immune system, feeding your body with natural nutrients keeps you staying happy and healthy. Think of your body as a plant, if you don't water it often and kept it in the dark, it would be wilted and the leaves would be dull... If you watered the plant often, gave it sunlight and looked after it, it would flourish and be bright and vibrant - just like your body. If you are prone to catching a cold in the cooler months, boost your immune system with Vitamin C - found in broccoli, citrus fruits & kiwi fruit. Remember having Vitamin C in it's natural form is always best. Generally most of us you do not need supplements unless you need an extra boost every now and then if you are feeling a cold come on or are sick.
Rest & Relax
It's important to always dedicate some time for yourself to rest and relax, and it's especially important over winter to keep the immune system strong. If you are run down and tired, this will increase the likelihood of catching something. If you feel a cold coming on, try to rest straight away if possible, and have some tea or fruit or vegetables filled with Vitamin C to assist your immune system to banish the sickness.
Rug up like an Eskimo (maybe not an Eskimo, but stay warm)
Keeping your body warm (at a comfortable temperate) during winter can also decrease the likelihood of sickness. Eating healthy provides you with energy which keeps your body warm on the inside. Drink warm drinks, have warm meals such as soup and when you venture outside make sure you're dressed appropriately for the weather. As they do in Europe, layered clothing always works best!

For the average person, we sleep for approx. 25 years of our life. That's a lot of time spent sleeping & dreaming!
Have you ever woken from a dream feeling as if it was so vivid you thought it actually happened? The reason that your dreams can feel incredibly real is because they are created by our subconscious mind. However, have you ever considered that dreams are more than just stories your brain makes up while you sleep? In actual fact dreams mean so much more than that, dreams are a magical tool that your subconscious mind uses to tell you important messages. It could be how you are feeling at the time, things that are coming or things to look out for.
There are 4 stages of sleep which is called NREM Sleep (which involves non-rapid eye movement), each stage can last from 5-15 minutes and a completed cycle of sleep consists of a progression from stages 1-4 before REM sleep (which involves rapid eye movement) is attained, then the cycle starts over again. To understand how this all works, here's a basic break down of the sleep stages:
Stage 1: During Stage 1 you can be awakened without difficulty, however, if woken from this stage of sleep, you may feel as if you have not slept. It is common to wake suddenly from the feeling of falling during this stage of sleep (the sudden feeling of falling was a common occurrence for me until I began taking magnesium supplements - a suggestion from my naturopath).
Stage 2: This is still a light sleep where your heart rate slows, body temperature decreases and muscles relax. At this point, your body prepares to enter deep sleep.
Stage 3 & Stage 4: These are both deep sleep stages, with Stage 4 being more intense than Stage 3. During the deep stages of sleep, the body repairs and regenerates tissues, builds bone and muscle, and strengthens the immune system. Most dreaming occurs in Stage 4. Experts say as you get older, you sleep more lightly and get less deep sleep.
There are awesome dream books and websites that you can use to unlock the hidden messages in your dreams. Lately I've been dreaming about being pregnant and although my boyfriend think I'm just being clucky, I knew that wasn't entirely the case.! Whenever I have a vivid dream I always look up the meanings to decipher what my subconscious mind is trying to communicate with me. I discovered that to dream of being pregnant symbolizes an aspect of yourself or some aspect of your personal life that is growing and developing. Being pregnant in your dream may also represent the birth of a new idea, direction, project or goal. Interesting, I have been focusing on a couple of new avenues to expand Living Organic Co. so this makes perfect sense.
Sometimes the messages in our dreams can be much more blunt and to the point, which may not be what you want to hear in your waking life. This can be due to not you not being ready to acknowledge what is going on in a certain situation or acknowledge how you are emotionally feeling at this point in time. Last week I dreamed that I died, apparently this dream is less likely to be about actual death, and is actually symbolic of loss, change & transition. It is often a positive dream, signalising some form stress or burden is about to be lifted enabling you to move forward in your life. This dream also often forecasts important life transitions and signal the need to take on a different role or a new challenge.
I don't believe every dream that we have is meant to provide you with a message, it's only the vivid dreams which focus on a certain symbol or topic that you should be looking out for.
But what about the people who don't remember their dreams often, this could be you? It hasn't been entirely proven as to why some people remember more dreams than others, however one study showed that those who remember their dreams often have a higher level of activity in certain parts of their brains - areas which are involved in processing information.
The results also showed that people who often remember their dreams are more likely to wake up during the night, once woken their dreams are cemented into memory. The research explained that the sleeping brain is not capable of memorizing new information; it needs to awaken to be able to do that. As I am someone who remembers my dreams often, this does make sense to me as I am a light sleeper and can wake for a moment during the night.
Here are a few tips if you are wanting to remember the secret messages in your dreams:
- Clear your mind before falling asleep and mentally tell yourself you will remember your dream/s when you wake up.
- Have a regular sleep time aka when you go to sleep and wake up can assist in dream recollection.
- Avoid alcohol or taking medication before going to bed or eating fatty foods too close to bedtime as they can stop you from remembering your dreams.
- Place a small notebook and pen next to your bed for you to note down anything you remember from your dream, this could be if you wake in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning.
- Share what you can remember from your dreams with others, no matter if they seem insignificant. The more often you acknowledge your dreams and bring them into "reality", the easier it will be to remember them.
What have your dreams been telling you? I'd love to hear about your secret messages!
I've been bursting at the seams to share with you the benefits of cleansing and healing your chakras to help you live a happier and healthier life!
So first things first, let me give you a really simple explanation on chakras. Our body (and every living thing for that matter) is made up of energy and chakras are energy centres which look after different aspects of our body, physically and energetically.
There are 7 main chakras which energy flows through which I've listed from bottom to top including their main functions below:
If there are energy blockages in one or more of the chakras then, over time, this blocked energy can impact the physical body. For instance signs of a blocked heart chakra from experiencing let's say a relationship breakup, can cause physical symptoms in your body such as tightness in the chest or shortness of breath. If you are not able to speak your truth, or speak up to someone in a situation, you can develop physical symptoms such as a sore throat which is caused by a blockage in the throat chakra.
If our chakras are blocked for a long period of time this can lead to further negative reactions, symptoms or developments in the body. As you know I'm a big believer in looking after the wellness of our mind, body and spirit and educating on the benefit of balancing these. I believe my mum's breast cancer was impacted by having a blocked heart chakra for many years. Mum's cancer was on her left breast and I believe her heart chakra was a factor in causing the cancer due to a challenging and emotionally draining marriage.
So how do you know if you have a blockage in one or more of your chakras? It's important to trust your body and tune in often to see how you feel. Have you been experiencing any discomfort in your body such as (but not limited to) digestive problems, headaches, sickness or a sore throat? Then consider whether this could be due to one or more of your chakras being blocked. I'm not a doctor so cannot say that the physical symptom/s you are experiencing is caused by a blockage of a chakra, however if you have gone through a hard situation or difficult emotional experience and you don't release or let go of the emotions, attachments or fears related to them, they commonly do appear in a physical way (this could be even just the way you are feeling or how you handle certain situations).
Our attitude, intentions, thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions also have repercussions on our chakras, both positive and negative. In deepening our self-awareness and improving our overall attitude we affect the quality of our chakras energy. Similarly, if we can tap into our chakras and identify the quality of the energy of each, it helps us to increase our self-knowledge and to identify if we need to cleanse or clear any of them.
There are many ways you can work on clearing and cleansing your chakras, in my personal experience I've used a mixture of kinesiology, spiritual healing, yoga as well as meditation.
There are some excellent chakra healing, clearing and balancing meditations available for free on Youtube, just search what you want to focus on and there will be one for you!
