It’s been quite a few years now since I’ve used a conventional deodorant after I began living a more natural life. As most of us are aware, general deodorant & anti-perspirants include aluminium, which was a big red flag to me when I decided to stop using them however do we really know what else we are putting under our armpits? I decided to investigate….
They contain potentially dangerous ingredients
Apart from containing aluminium chloride or aluminium sulphate, other common ingredients include parabens and propylene glycol. The reasons why these ingredients are included is because they stop you from sweating however, alarmingly there are growing concerns between the chemicals found in such products and chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. Propylene glycolis is a neurotoxin that has potential (used in large or prolonged applications) to cause contact dermatitis, kidney and liver damage. Even more alarming is when using spray-based deodorants and anti-perspirants, you also inhale some of the toxic elements and pollute the air we breathe. If we can reduce the chances of potential diseases or illnesses wouldn’t you want to?
What is safe to use & how do they benefit?
Use an all-natural or organic deodorant/anti-perspirant and read the ingredients. I have a rule, if I can’t pronounce it it’s probably not good for you! Eating and living a healthy lifestyle will also assist to reduce the amount of sweat and body oduor you produce. Perfect Potion’s Active Deodorant is featured in our Fit Babe & Mr Cool Hamper, another way of helping you to live naturally.
Sweating is not a bad thing people!
Believe it or not sweating is an extremely important function of the body and it's purpose is to maintain the body’s temperature as well as eliminating toxins – because of this we shouldn’t want to stop the perspiration all together, instead manage it with gentle and natural ingredients.

Have you ever found some weeks you’re feeling easily aggravated, find people at work are in an edgy or extra stressed mood or had someone yell at you for no reason? You would think it’s just a bad day or week, but have you ever considered that there is more to it than just that?
Did you know that it has been proven that the moon can impact our behaviour and how we react to situations, make decisions and choices on how we live our lives?
This is due to the frequencies emanating from the moon which affect the frequencies of our mind and body including our feelings, emotions and desires.
The moon frequencies have the capacity to make our thought impressions in our sub-conscious mind to surface to the conscious mind and once in the conscious mind we become aware of them. These frequencies also affect the minds of animals.
I hope I haven’t lost you yet! Let me explain, at a spiritual level the universe is made up three basic particles or energies which are known as the three subtle basic components (trigunās) named Sattva, Raja and Tama.
On a full moon and new moon days there is a decrease in the ‘Raja-Tama’ (two of these basic particles). On a full moon there is increased illumination on the moon and there is a gravitational pull of the moon and sun combined. There is a gravitation pull on other days too, but it is not as powerful as on these days. This creates a subtle very high-pressure belt.
On a full moon day as the moon frequencies are more active, a heightened activity of the mind occurs which can explain those changing and sometimes unexpected behaviours of people. Did you know that at this time there is increased visits to general or psychiatric emergency departments and people find they have higher levels of physical and mental distress? Our moods are affected as much as three time more than usual which starts two days before a full moon or new moon and ends two days after.
Overall the effect of the moon on us is more on a new moon than on full moon. The overall effect of a full moon is more on the physical body whereas that of new moon is more on the mind.
The most important question is though, how do we help ourselves during these times to have a more balanced and relaxed life? It’s been suggested to try not to make big decisions on these days such as buying a house and increase the amount of time meditating. Relaxing and eating healthy to keep the body and mind in complete wellness would benefit. I’d suggest our Feelin Healthy, Chilled Dude or Healthy Mind, Body & Spirit hampers to help you stay relaxed, balanced and healthy during this time.

A first kiss can leave you feeling dizzy and a passionate smooch can make you tingly and happy inside.
I know this sounds kind of odd but have you ever thought about something so much you realise how strange it is?? Think about it, when you kiss someone you put your lips against another’s and move them around…weird. But it feels so good and it’s known all over the world as a way to show love and affection.
Which got me thinking, why does kissing feel so good? I decided to investigate the top health benefits of kissing to share with you. I hope this blog leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside.
1. Kissing helps self-esteem & state of mind and makes you feel appreciated.
2. Kissing relieves stress. Passionate kissing relieves tension, reduces negative energy and produces a sense of well-being, lowering your cortisol ‘stress’ hormone.
3. Kissing is good for our heart, as it creates an adrenaline which causes the heart to pump more blood around your body. Lots of kissing has scientifically been proven to stabilise cardiovascular activity, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol.
4. Kissing reduces anxiety and stops the ‘noise’ in your mind. It increases the levels of oxytocin, an extremely calming hormone that produces a feeling of peace.
5. Kissing helps relieve pain. The endorphins produced by kissing are 200 times more powerful than morphine. Wowza!
6. Kissing keeps your skin staying toned. Kissing involves 34 facial muscles, and 112 postural muscles, toning your face preventing sagging – keeping your face looking young.
7. Kissing keeps us healthy. It improves our immunity by releasing antibodies that kill bacteria.
So what are you waiting for, get smooching!!

When you're munching on nuts or snacking on seeds you are having a healthy snack, but what if I told you that these snacks could be even healthier through activating them?
Nuts are loaded with protein, healthy fats, fibre and important minerals like zinc, magnesium and calcium.
It's been said that Aborigines have been activating their nuts and seeds for thousands of years, as activated food seems to be all the craze at the moment, I wanted to fill you in on the health benefits and how you can easily do this at home.
Activating food is soaking it until the nuts or seeds begin to grow again and become 'alive' (known as the sprouting process). This is when they are filled with the most nutrients and are easier for the body to absorb. You can activate nuts, grains such as quinoa and seeds.
How to activate your food at home:
Dissolve 1-2 tps of salt in enough water to cover the amount of nuts/grains/seeds you are activating
Soak for 12-24 hours
Strain and rinse the nuts/grains/seed and spread over a dehydrator rack, or baking tray and dry at a low heat. Make sure the nuts are completely dry before you store them.
Another great benefit of eating activated food is you can do this without feeling heavy, especially if you suffer from digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease or Crohn’s disease.
Don't have time to activate your food? Don't worry, there are brands which offer these such as Loving Earth, check out your local health food store to try some.
